Global Voices Theatre
I am delighted to be a member of the steering group of the pioneering international theatre company Global Voices Theatre. Please visit their website to learn more about their important work in platforming international theatre artists on the UK stage and beyond.
In 2018, I conceived and successfully pitched Global Queer Plays to the Arcola Theatre. Following 100+ entries, Global Queer Plays showcased 7 international LGBTQIA plays in the UK for the first time over two days in 2018. The near sell-out event resulted in Oberon Books publishing all 7 plays. You can read my write-up of the event for the Theatre Times here.
Shortly after the event, the company Global Voices Theatre (GVT) was formed by Lora Krasteva, Robin Skyer and Zhui Ning Chang, extending the ‘global’ concept to explore and platform international playwriting in events such as Global Female Voices, Global Black Voices, and Global Indigenous Voices, to name just a few.
In 2019, I was the lead curator for GVT on Global Queer Voices, which shared more international LGBTQIA plays at the Arcola in April. I was involved in the selection and programming process, liaising with directors and other artists to put the event together, and chairing and convening a post-show panel to follow the presentation of the plays.
I am proud to continue working with GVT in an advisory capacity and urge all my visitors to explore their pioneering work.
Global Voices also commissioned and developed my translation of La Jana by Juan Pablo Justiniano Aguilera.
